Hogs Slip Against South Alabama in Weekend Opener
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 20 Arkansas dropped its Razorback Rumble opener vs. South Alabama, 2-1, Friday at Bogle Park. Game two vs. Saint Francis was canceled due to weather and will not be rescheduled.
Following Friday, Arkansas falls to 17-5 overall.
Despite claiming a 1-0 lead in the first, Arkansas was unable to scrap together more runs throughout the remainder of the game. The Razorbacks combined for one run on six hits, including three extra-base knocks.
Bri Ellis put Arkansas on the board in the first after slashing an RBI double to right, scoring Reagan Johnson from second.
Despite a commanding outing in the circle, LHP Robyn Herron (6-5) took the loss. Herron surrendered just two runs on three hits across 4.0 IP. The southpaw struck out six and worked around three walks. Herron retired the first six batters she faced.
South Alabama plated two runs in the top of the third on a pair of base hits to capture a 2-1 advantage.
RHP Morgan Leinstock entered the circle in the top of the fifth and pitched three innings of relief. Leinstock did not allow a run and limited the Jaguars to three base knocks. The Scottsdale, Ariz., product also fanned five and did not allow a walk.
Arkansas was paced offensively by Reagan Johnson and Atalyia Rijo, who both recorded multi-hit outings. Johnson finished 2-for-4 and scored Arkansas’ lone run, which marks a team-best 11 multi-hit performances this season. Rijo registered her first multi-hit game of the season after going 2-for-3 with a double. Bri Ellis knocked in Arkansas’ only run on her RBI double in the first.
The Hogs’ second game vs. St. Francis was canceled in the bottom of the third inning due to weather. The game will not be rescheduled.
