Hogs Take Doubles Point in Loss to No. 11 Texas A&M, 4-1
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 41 Arkansas women’s tennis team (10-11, 3-8) grabbed the doubles point before falling 4-1 to No. 11 Texas A&M (18-6, 10-1) on Sunday afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center.
Kelly Keller and Carolina Gomez Alonso put the Razorbacks on the board first with a 6-1 win on court three against Fitch/Smetannikov. Texas A&M responded with No. 5 Kupres/Stoiana taking a 6-3 victory over No. 37 Morgan Cross/Indianna Spink.
The doubles point came down to court two as the Hogs clinched the point with a 6-4 win from Lenka Stara/Grace O’Donnell over Mireles/Perez. The victory for Stara and O’Donnell moves them into sole possession of sixth place for the most doubles wins in program history (33).
The Aggies earned their first point of the match at the No. 3 position, as Perez defeated Spink in straight sets. Texas A&M claimed the lead after Pittman secured a 6-0, 6-1 victory on court six over Kacie Harvey. Mireles extended the Aggie lead to 3-1 after taking down Stara at the No. 4 position, 6-2, 6-3. Texas A&M clinched the match after No. 1 Stoiana pulled out a 6-2, 6-2 win in the top spot against No. 26 Gomez Alonso.
The Razorbacks go on the road to finish SEC play as they look forward to matches against Mississippi State on Friday, April 12, and No. 34 Ole Miss on Sunday, April 14, before heading to the SEC Tournament.
