Invitational 800m featured race at John McDonnell Invitational

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas hosts its second outdoor home meet of the season with the John McDonnell Invitational on Friday, April 24, at John McDonnell Field.

There will be a recognition for retired men’s head coach Chris Bucknam at 2:15 p.m. on the track along with a special announcement from Vice Chancellor & Director of Athletics Hunter Yurachek.

The meet will stream on SEC Network + at this link. Live results will be available on flashresults.com.

With 31 schools competing, the No. 2 Razorbacks host programs that include Central Arkansas, Central Missouri, Coffeyville CC, Houston Christian, Illinois State, Indian Hills CC, Kansas, Lamar, Missouri Southern Missouri State, Northwest Arkansas CC, Oklahoma Baptist, Oklahoma Christian, Oklahoma State, Oral Roberts, Pittsburg State, Southeast Missouri, South Dakota State, and Tulsa.

After missing out on racing in the Invitational 800m at the Mt. SAC Relays, Arkansas will feature an 800m for Tyrice Taylor and Rivaldo Marshall.

“We had a wreck in the 800m at Mt. SAC, so we still have to run a good 800m and we’re going to try to do that this week at the John McDonnell meet,” noted Arkansas men’s head coach Doug Case. “We’re going to set up a good 800m for Tyrice and Rivaldo. Hopefully, they stay on their feet this time.”

During the Arkansas Spring Invitational two weeks ago, Taylor and Marshall ran to 600m of an 800m race. Then at the Mt. SAC Relays, the Razorback pair completed 400m of an 800m race when the field collided with a photographer who had stepped into lane one with his back to the runners.

Indoors, the Arkansas tandem combined for a 1-2 finish at the NCAA Indoor Championships to score 18 team points towards a national team title for the Razorbacks.

Taylor currently holds the UA record outdoors with a 1:43.74 from 2025 while a 1:45.59 for Marshall from 2025 ranks No. 4 on the UA all-time list. Marshall holds the UA indoor record at 1:45.62 while Taylor ranks No. 3 with a 1:46.00.

Razorbacks also in the Invitational 800m are Owan Logorodi and Josh Rammage. A 3,000m race following the 4 x 400m relays will include Ben Shearer and Nick Busienei.
