
J. Gomez, O'Donnell Earn Victories as Hogs Fall to No. 1 Georgia
ATHENS, Ga. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (4-11, 1-7) suffered a 5-2 loss to No. 1 Georgia (15-1, 8-0) on the road Friday afternoon at Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs grabbed the early lead after taking the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. No. 10 Mell Reasco and Dasha Vidmanova struck first for Georgia after a 6-0 win over Olga Bienzobas and Carolina Gomez at the No. 1 position. The duo of No. 74 Guillermina Grant and Anastasiia Lopata defeated Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell 6-2 to clinch the doubles point for the Bulldogs. Jimena Gomez and Katarina Pavlechova’s match went unfinished with the Hogs leading 5-3.
Georgia carried its momentum into singles play, winning on courts four, one, three and two, respectively, to secure the match. The Razorbacks responded by claiming the final two points as O’Donnell bested Sofia Rojas 6-1, 3-6, 1-0 (10-8) at the No. 5 position while Jimena Gomez followed with a straight-set victory against Mai Nirundorn, earning her first conference win of the season.
The Hogs are back in action on Sunday, March 23 at 12 p.m. CT to face No. 21 South Carolina.
