Jelani Watkins speedy weekend merits SEC Runner of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE – Razorback sophomore Jelani Watkins earned SEC Runner of the Week following a fast weekend of sprinting during the 66th Mt. SAC Relays in Walnut, California.
Watkins produced a wind-aided time of 9.82 (+2.8 wind) to claim victory in the Invitational 100m and is the current world leader in the event for 2026 under all-conditions. The time ranks equal No. 8 among collegians under all-conditions and Watkins is the second fastest Razorback, trailing a wind-aided 9.75 for Jordan Anthony in 2025.
The Mt. SAC Relays meet record and Hilmer Lodge Stadium facility record of 9.86 (+1.8 wind) was set in 1998 by Olympic medalist Ato Boldon of Trinidad & Tobago.
Watkins wind-legal career best in the 100m is 10.01 from the 2025 NCAA East First Rounds.
In the 200m, Watkins led an Arkansas 1-2-3 sweep in the Collegiate division with a time of 20.35 that ranks equal No. 9 on the UA all-time list with Kenzo Cotton. Watkins career best outdoors is 20.24, also from the 2025 NCAA East meet, while he registered a career best of 20.11 indoors at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Championships.
Watkins also anchored the Razorbacks 4 x 100m relay to a collegiate-leading time of 38.62, which ranks No. 8 on the UA all-time list.
Joining Watkins on the sprint relay were Karabo Letebele, Tevijon Williams, and Jamarion Stubbs. The foursome currently shares the leading 4-person average this season with Auburn in the 100m at an average of 10.06.
Following the 9.82w for Watkins are Letebele (10.10), Stubbs (10.11), and Williams (10.23).
Arkansas is also the 200m event leader with an average of 20.44 over Auburn’s 20.54 from a crew of Watkins (20.35), Devyn Wright (20.42), Letebele (20.48), and Jordan Pierre (20.52).
