José Marin One of Six on WGCA National Freshman of the Year Watch List

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. – Maria José Marin of the No. 10 Arkansas women’s golf team has racked up another accolade, as she is one of six to be named on the Division I Women’s Golf Coaches Association Freshman of the Year Presented by Strackaline Watch List. The award will be announced after medal play at the NCAA Women’s Golf Championships this upcoming week.

José Marin is coming off a stellar collegiate debut season after being tabbed SEC Freshman of the Year and earning All-SEC First Team and All-Freshman Team honors. She is the No. 6 player, according to the Scoreboard by Clippd rankings and has sat within the top 10 all season long. José Marin also sits at No. 20 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings.

In her first season with the Hogs, José Marin leads the team in scoring average (70.85), adjusted scoring average (69.3), rounds at par or better (19) and rounds in the 60s (7). She is coming off a tie for eighth at the NCAA Las Vegas Regionals, which added to her total of four top 10 finishes. José Marin won the Blessings Collegiate Invitational and has two runner-up showings at the Carmel Cup and MountainVIew Collegiate. At the Carmel Cup, she tied an Arkansas freshman 54-hole record with an 11-under 205 (67-70-68).

The Cali, Colombia native was invited to play for Team International at the Arnold Palmer Cup, which is set for July 5-7 in Lahinch, Ireland. She is also coming off playing in her second Augusta Women’s National Amateur, making the cut to play at Augusta National both times. José Marin was an ANNIKA Award Spring Watch List recipient and four-time SEC Golfer/Freshman Golfer of the Week.

Arkansas women’s golf is set to play at the NCAA Championships, making the program’s 12th appearance, from May 17-22 at Omni La Costa in Carlsbad, California.
