José Marin Ready to Play in her Second ANWA

FAYETTEVILLE – Maria José Marin is one of 72 amateurs set to compete at the fifth playing of the Augusta National Women’s Amateur, starting on Wednesday, April 3 and carrying through Saturday, April 6.

The first 36 holes of the tournament on Wednesday and Thursday will be played at Champions Retreat Golf Club. The top 30 players and ties after that cut will play in the final round at Augusta National Golf Club on Saturday, April 6. All players in the field will have the opportunity to play a practice round at Augusta National on Friday.

José Marin will tee off with group 6 at 7:23 a.m. CT. She will play with Florida State’s Lottie Woad and Auburn’s Anna Davis.

All three rounds of ANWA will be aired on the Golf Channel. The first and second rounds from Champions Retreat will be broadcast from 12:30-2:30 p.m. “Live from the Masters” will air on Friday at 11 a.m. to preview Saturday’s final round, and NBC will cover the final round from Augusta National starting at 11 a.m.

Last year at the ANWA, José Marin tied for 14th with a 3-over 219 (71-72-76) and became the first South American to make the cut for the final round.

José Marin is ranked No. 2 in the Scoreboard Powered by Clippd rankings, as well as No. 14 in the World Amateur Golf rankings. In 2023, she won a total of eight World Amateur Golf Ranking events, including a four-stroke win at the Mexican Women’s Amateur. For her collegiate golfing season, she leads the Hogs with a 70.45 scoring average with 16 rounds at par or better and six rounds in the 60s. In her freshman season, she has placed in the top 20 in all seven tournament appearances with individual medalist honors at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational following a 10-under 134 (67-67), two runner-up finishes and three top 10 showings. José Marin is coming off a runner-up finish at the MountainView Collegiate, in which she logged an 8-under 208 (72-66-70).

The 17-year-old Cali, Colombia native is a four-time SEC Golfer or Freshman Golfer of the Week recipient and leads the league in scoring average among freshmen. She was also tabbed one of 15 on the 2023-24 Spring ANNIKA Award Watch List last month.

Arkansas women’s golf will play at the SEC Championship at Pelican Golf Club at Belleair, Florida from Friday, April 12 to Tuesday, April 16.
