Keli McGregor remembered

FAYETTEVILLE – Former University of Arkansas athletic administrator and Colorado Rockies’ President Keli McGregor was found dead in his hotel room in Salt Lake City this morning. McGregor was on a business trip with other Rockies’ team officials.

McGregor joined the Razorback staff in 1990 as the director of student life and development. He was later promoted to assistant athletic director for student life and academic support before leaving the Razorbacks after four years in October of 1993 to assume a leadership position with the Colorado Rockies.

"We are saddened by the loss of a member of the Razorback Family," Vice Chancellor and Director of Athletics Jeff Long said. "In his four years as an athletic administrator at the University of Arkansas, Keli enhanced the lives of Razorback student-athletes through his work in academic support and student life. Even as he assumed new leadership roles with the Colorado Rockies, Keli’s success remained a source of pride for the Razorback program. Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife, Lori, the entire McGregor family and the Colorado Rockies organization."

A two-time All-American tight end at Colorado State, McGregor was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the fourth round of the 1985 NFL Draft. He played in the NFL for Denver, Indianapolis and Seattle.

Following his playing career, he coached football at the University of Florida for two seasons (1988-89) while earning his master’s degree in Education.

McGregor spent four years working for the athletic department at the University of Arkansas before accepting a position as Senior Director of Operations with the Colorado Rockies in October of 1993. He was promoted to Senior Vice President of the club in 1996 and then to Executive Vice President in 1998. McGregor became President of the Colorado Rockies on Oct. 18, 2001.
