Koskel, Pavlechova Win Groups at PTT 25K Fayetteville

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team continued its fall season this week competing at the PTT 25K Fayetteville. Anet Koskel and Katarina Pavlechova both finished atop their groups, advancing to the 1st place playoffs.

Groups A and D were decided today as Pavlechova took on Monika Wojcik while Koskel faced Mia Robinson. Each player was 3-0 leading up to Thursday as Pavlechova and Koskel had only lost one set combined during their first three matches.

Pavlechova dropped the first set against Wojcik before rebounding with a 6-3 victory in the second. In a winner-take-all third set, Pavlechova prevailed 6-4 to claim Group A. Koskel maintained her dominance at the PTT 25K Fayetteville after crusing to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Robinson to secure Group D. Koskel will face Caroline Driscoll while Pavlechova takes on Lucia Donnelly in the 1st place playoffs with both matches starting at 4 p.m.

Jimena Gomez Alonso qualified for the 3rd place playoffs after finishing 2-2 in Group D. Gomez Alonso picked up victories in her final two matches against Sia Cariov and Arkansas teammate Morgan McCarthy. Gomez Alonso will match up against Riley Crowder tomorrow at 10 a.m.

Olga Bienzobas and Katie Ferguson are set to compete in the 4th place playoffs after Bienzobas ended play in Group C with a 2-2 record while Ferguson went 1-3 in Group B. Bienzobas matches up against Cariov tomorrow at 1 p.m. as Ferguson takes the court to face Tanika Saravanan tomorrow afternoon.

Morgan McCarthy and Lilitha Ndungane both entered the tournament as on-site alternates and will face each other tomorrow at 10 a.m. in the 5th place playoffs after finishing winless in the group stage. O’Donnell fell to Lucia Donnelly in straight sets in her only match of the event on Sunday.
