Lingmerth eliminated at Amateur

TULSA, Okla.– University of Arkansas senior David Lingmerth was eliminated in the round of eight at the 109th U.S. Amateur in Tulsa, Okla., Friday.

Lingmerth fell 2 & 1 to Greenwood, S.C.’s Ben Martin after leading the match early at Southern Hills Country Club. Lingmerth won the first two holes going 2-up early in the match. He would fall to 1-up but hung on to the lead through seven holes.

Martin squared the match on the eighth hole and took the lead on the ninth. But Lingmerth came back to square the contest on the 10th hole. Martin again squeaked out the lead on the 11th but Lingmerth rallied squaring the match on the 12th.

Martin next won the 13th and 14th holes taking a lead he would not surrender as Lingmerth fell 2 & 1 and was eliminated from play.

Lingmerth returns to campus leading the Razorbacks after the team’s extraordinary NCAA runner-up finish this spring. The Razorbacks open the 2009-10 season in early September.
