Lozada Has Career-Best Outing at Frederica Cup

SAINT SIMONS ISLAND, Ga. – Redshirt sophomore Manuel Lozada posted a 67 (-5) in the final round of the Frederica Cup to cap his best tournament as a Razorback, finishing 12th with a career-low, 54-hole score of 205 and a career-best score in relation to par of -11.

The Frederica Cup – a six-count-five tournament – was the season-opening event for Arkansas, which placed seventh in the eight-team field with a score of 1,062 (-18). Vanderbilt won with a score of 1011 (-69), followed by Oklahoma at 1014 (-66). Third-place Texas Tech was 20-strokes behind the Sooners.

Lozada, who missed last season due to injury, carded seven of his 14 birdies at the event Thursday. His two rounds in the 60’s this week matched his previous career total, shooting 69 in the opening round at the 2020 Jerry Pate and 69 in the opening round of the 2021 NCAA Championship. His score of -11 in relation to par was 10-shots better than his previous best and his score of 205 was four-shots better than his previous best (13 shots better than his previous 54-hole score on a par 72 course). The 12th-place finish was the second-best of his career behind a sixth-place finish at the 2121 Collegiate Invitational.

Julian Perico moved up five spots to finish 19th (tied) for his 21st career top-20 finish. Also, with his round of 68 Thursday – combined with his rounds of 71-70 Wednesday, Perico has 34 career rounds in the 60’s and 64 career rounds of par or better. Perico was 4-under after six holes thanks to two birdies and his 23rd career eagle. He not only owns the school record for eagles, but he is also 10 ahead of second place (Sebastian Cappelen, Mason Overstreet and Tyson Reeder).

Wil Gibson finished 29th (tied) and his score in relation to par (-3) tied his career-best while his 54-hole score of 212 was his best on a par-72 course.

Christian Castillo tied for 37th (72-70-75=217 / =1), Mateo Fernandez de Oliveira tied for 42nd (71-71-77=219 / +3) and Segundo Oliva Pinto tied for 46th (72-78-77=227 / +11).

Up next, Arkansas looks to defend its title at the SEC Fall Match Play. The event is set for Sept. 25-27 and will be played in Vestavia Hills, Ala., at Old Overton Club.
