
Manuel named SEC Freshman of the Week
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Razorback men’s tennis rookie Melvin Manuel was named SEC Freshman of the Week after picking up the match clincher against Memphis on Feb. 15, the league announced on Wednesday afternoon.
After Memphis tied it up at 3-3 with three-straight singles wins and Manuel dropping the first set to Jeremy Taylor, the freshman won an extended second set 7-5 to push his match to a final set. Manuel was able to close it out, 6-4, despite building a multiple game lead in the final stanza and his Tiger opponent bringing it to within one game (5-4).
The Les Alluets-le-Roi, France native has won three of out of his last four singles and doubles matches and he leads the Razorbacks along with his doubles partner, Jose Dominguez Alonso, with a 5-2 record this spring.
Manuel and the Razorbacks are back on the road tonight for a match against the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Tulsa, Okla.
