Marin Top 10, Lopez Runner-Up at U.S. Women's Open
PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. – Current Razorback Maria Jose Marin and former Hog Gaby Lopez each finished inside the top 10 of the 81st U.S. Women’s Open at Riviera Country Club (Par 71).
Marin shot an even 71 in the final round to finish at 2-under and tie for eighth. She nearly earned low-amateur honors if not for a bogey on her final hole. Lopez turned in 68 and shot 7-under for the tournament to tie with Charley Hull and finish one shot back of the winner, Nelly Korda.
Marin is Arkansas’ highest-finishing amateur at the U.S. Women’s Open. Lopez tied Stacy Lewis as the highest-finishing Razorbacks at a U.S. Open. Lewis finished solo-second at the 2014 Championship.
With the top 10 finishes, Marin and Lopez earned their spots in the 82nd U.S. Women’s Open next June at Inverness. Marin also earned two LPGA Elite Amateur Pathway (LEAP) points to total 15, needing 20 points to earn LPGA Tour status.
Marin will appear in the final two majors of the LPGA season, thanks to exemptions earned by winning the Augusta National Women’s Amateur in April. Later this summer, she will travel to Évian-les-Bains, France, to play in the 2026 Amundi Evian Championship from July 9-12, followed by the 2026 Women’s Open from July 30-Aug. 2 at Royal Lytham & St. Annes Golf Club in Lytham St. Annes, England.
Marin has appeared in three majors as an amateur and hasn’t missed a cut.
