Mark Smith named honorary captain

The University of Arkansas is proud to announce former Razorback linebacker Mark Smith as the honorary captain for the football game against Troy. The Razorbacks take on the Trojans on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Donald W. Reynolds Razorbacks Stadium. The University of Arkansas Athletic Department is presenting an honorary captain for each Fayetteville home game this season. Each honorary captain is honored prior to the game on the field, recognized on the RazorVision and accompanies the Razorback captains to midfield for the coin toss. The honorary captain also appears at the Legends Tent in the AT&T Trough approximately 90 minutes before game time. Smith lettered from 1993 to 1996 and is currently 13th on the all time Razorback career tackle list with 305 stops. Smith led Arkansas in tackles in 1994 and 1995. In 1995 Smith helped lead the Razorbacks to the Southeastern Conference Western Division title and Arkansas’ first appearance in the SEC Championship Game. The season was highlighted by the 20-19 win at Alabama in which Mark snagged a crucial second half interception. For his efforts that season, Smith was named first-team All-Southeastern Conference. In 1996, Smith was named team captain and won the Chism Reed Award for outstanding leadership. Smith also represented Arkansas in the annual Blue-Gray game. Smith is member of the 1990 Arkansas All-Decade Team.
