McCallop Has Triple-Double in Exhibition Win over Cameron

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas women’s basketball took down Cameron, 116-55, in the Hogs’ only exhibition game of the preseason on Thursday night at Bud Walton Arena.

Sophomore guard Grace McCallop made history as just the second Razorback to record a triple-double in any game, with 15 points, 10 rebounds and 11 steals in 23 minutes of action.

The Hogs unofficial first starting five of the season included McCallop, guard Jianna Morris, forward Kyiah Prestridge, guard Emily Robinson and forward D’Asia Thomas-Harris.

Arkansas’ defense, a topic of discussion leading up to the season, lived up to the hype early and didn’t allow the Aggies to get a shot off until the 5:35 mark in the first quarter. The Hogs were already up 15-0 by the time Cameron made its first bucket, a three-pointer 34 seconds after its first attempt.

The Aggies were plagued by turnovers early and committed a whopping 19 in the first quarter alone. Robinson, the lone returner with playing time from last season’s team, took advantage, with all eight of her first-quarter points coming off turnovers.

As a team, Arkansas scored 24 of its 28 first-quarter points off turnovers, with 22 of those points coming in the paint. The Hogs struggled from beyond the arc early and missed their first 12 three-point attempts.

The Razorbacks pushed their lead to 37 points by half, mainly due to an 11-point, 14-rebound performance from Thomas-Harris in just the second quarter alone.

Arkansas dropped a game-high 31 points in the third quarter, this time led by McCallop with nine as she pushed for the triple-double. The Kansas City, Kansas native accomplished the feat with her 10th rebound at the 2:22 mark in the third quarter.

The Hogs led by 57, 88-35, at the start of the fourth quarter and slowed down defensively, allowing the Aggies to score a game-high 20 points.

Thomas-Harris surpassed the 20-point mark early in the fourth to finish with a team-leading 26 points.

Arkansas shot a decent 42% (45-108) from the field but struggled from the line (59%, 20-34) and beyond the arc (18%, 6-34). Cameron finished at 43% (21-49) from the field, 50% (5-10) from three and 44% (8-18) from the free-throw line.

Four Razorbacks posted double-digit performances: Thomas-Harris (26 points), Robinson (25 points), McCallop (15 points), and Beautiful Waheed (11 points). Arkansas also saw strong nights from sophomore forward Daniah Trammell (9 rebounds and 5 steals) and freshman forward Kyiah Prestridge (8 points and 5 steals).

Game Notes

  • McCallop joins C’eria Ricketts as the only Razorbacks to record a triple-double in any game. Ricketts did so against Auburn in 2009.
  • Thomas-Harris became the first Hog since 2015 (Melissa Wolf) to have a 20-point, 20-rebound game.
  • Arkansas’ 116 points are its most in an exhibition game since at least 2014.
  • Cameron’s 52 turnovers are the most by an opponent in any game in program history, besting the previous mark of 43 held by Murray State since 1990.
