Men’s Tennis Advance Three to Quarterfinals at ITA Fall Circuit

WICHITA, Kan. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team completed its first day of the ITA Fall Circuit with all six Razorbacks advancing to the Round of 16 and three advancing to quarterfinals play tomorrow.

Returning junior Melvin Manuel won both of his matches today as the No. 1 seed in the tournament. In the Round of 32, Manuel beat Oklahoma’s Robinson in two sets 6-2, 6-0. He continued to dominate, downing Zach Greuber in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-1 in the Round of 16.

Manuel will face the new addition to Arkansas’ roster, Alan Sau in the quarterfinals. In his debut as a Razorback, Sau was seeded No. 5 and defeated both of his opponents in straight sets on his way to the quarters. Also making his first appearance as a Razorback was Benedkit Emesz as the No. 2 seeded player. Emesz will face Wichita State’s Alex Richards tomorrow in the quarters after winning his two matches today in straight sets.

The Razorbacks had nine wins total on the day, with every Razorback winning their Round of 32 matches. Junior Adrien Burdet took the first set tiebreaker 7-6 (11-9) and won the second set, 6-1 for his win. Jake Sweeney split sets in his first match, winning the third set tiebreaker 1-0 (10-6). Junior Foster Rogers rounded out the Razorbacks’ wins in the first round with a straight-set victory, 6-2, 6-2.
