Men's Tennis Closes Out First Weekend of Fall Season
MIDLAND, Texas – The Arkansas men’s tennis team finished their first weekend of fall action today at the Wichita State 5K Fall UTR and Racquet Club 14K Prize Money Event. Two Razorbacks took the court today with Melvin Manuel winning his only match in the singles silver draw finals while Stefanos Savva fell in the finals of the singles back draw.
After an impressive showing this weekend at the Racquet Club 14K, Melvin Manuel finished off the tournament with a tight victory over Julien Penzlin (LSU), 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (6). For the tournament, Manuel compiled a 4-1 record overall and closed with three straight wins in the singles silver draw.
After a close Round of 16 loss in the singles main draw on Friday, Stefanos Savva responded with convincing back-to-back victories yesterday to secure his spot in the finals of the singles back draw. Savva, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, dropped his match today against the top overall seed, Kristof Minarik (Wichita State), 4-6, 2-6. Savva finished the weekend with a 2-2 record.
Multiple Razorbacks will be in action during the team’s next tournament, as Arkansas will host the PTT 25K Fayetteville at the Billingsley Tennis Center, which runs from September 18-24.
