Men's Tennis Hosts Drake in Midweek Matchup
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team (5-2) returns home to host Drake (6-2) in a midweek matchup on Wednesday at 6 p.m. at Billingsley Tennis Center. After Wednesday, the Razorbacks will play seven of their next eight matches on the road.
The Hogs are coming off an exciting 4-3 win over Nebraska on Saturday. For the first time this season, Arkansas was able to rebound after dropping the doubles point by winning four singles matches to secure the victory over the Huskers.
Benedikt Emesz and Stefanos Savva recorded the first two points for the Razorbacks while No. 107 Melvin Manuel and Gerard Planelles Ripoll followed with three-set victories to clinch the match for the Hogs. Emesz and Manuel currently lead the team with five singles wins.
The Bulldogs are off to a 6-2 start this season and recently split a pair of road matches against Indiana and Purdue. Drake has picked up wins over Washburn, Northern Illinois, William Woods, Luther, Creighton, and Purdue.
Senior Markus Bolin leads the Bulldogs with five singles wins on the year while senior Jeremy Schifris heads the lineup on court one with a 3-1 record. Freshman Ben Johnson has also claimed three singles wins this season. The tandem of redshirt seniors No. 48 Oliver Johansson and Matija Matic hold a 5-1 doubles record, primarily playing at the No. 1 position. Individually, Johnson is 4-1 in doubles play this year.
