Men’s Tennis picks up eight wins on second day of LSU Tournament

BATON ROUGE, La. – Razorback Men’s Tennis earned eight wins on Saturday in doubles and singles action at the LSU Tournament, with two doubles pairings both going 2-0 on the second day of competition.

In the doubles bracket, the Razorbacks picked up five wins on the day. Maxim Verboven and Hunter Harrison earned two of those against Texas A&M opponents, downing the top-seeded pair of Aguiler/Smith and the duo of Vacheot/Schacter 8-6 in both matches. Aleksa Bucan and Nico Rousset also went 2-0 on Saturday. The Razorback duo defeated the combo of Pisane and Tortora from LSU and Mississippi State, 8-5, and then got a win due to retirement over Descarrega/Pisane, 1-2.

Freshman Avery Zavala teamed with Melvin Manuel to pick up an 8-5 victory over the pairing of Taylor/Perot of Texas A&M.

“Another good day for us”, said head coach Andy Jackson. “Particularly in doubles where we beat a French Open main draw player from last year and a US Open junior champion.”

Arkansas then picked up three wins in singles play from Bucan, Harrison and freshman Foster Rogers. Bucan earned a straight-set victory over Tom Pisane of LSU after taking a hard-fought first set, winning it it 7-6(5), and then taking the second set 7-5. Harrison got his third win of the day after easily taking down another Tiger, Nick Watson, in two sets, 6-2, 6-3. Freshman Foster Rogers earned his first victory as a Razorback, defeating Stedman Strickland of Mississippi State, 6-1, 6-2.

After advancing to the quarterfinals yesterday in the Tiger Draw, Nico Rousset was bested Gregor Ramskogler of Mississippi State. Rousset fell 6-3, 6-1 in his bid for a semifinals appearance.
