No. 10 Women’s Golf Stands in Middle of Pack After First Round of NCAA Championship

CARLSBAD, Calif. – The No. 10 Arkansas women’s golf team sits in a tie for 12th following the first round of the NCAA Championship, carding an even 288 on Friday night. The 288 marks the Hogs’ 15th round at par or better this season, which is the second most in school history in an individual season. Arkansas was 4-under par at the turn and with windy conditions picking up, the Hogs finished 3-over par on the back. The Hogs are three shots above the cutline with the top 15 teams after three rounds advancing to the fourth round of stroke play on Monday.

Miriam Ayora got off to a great start, as she was 3-under par through the front nine with three of her four birdies and six of her 11 pars on the front. After a bogey on the 10th hole, she got that one back with a chip-in birdie on the 11th hole. Ayora finished the day with a 1-under 71 to lead the Hogs and tally her 14th round at par or better this season. She is in a tie for 18th in the 157-person field.

Kendall Todd fought tough throughout the day finish with an even 72. She logged two birdies and 14 pars with just two bogeys. A birdie on the 15th hole put her back to even on the day to register her 15th round at par or better this season. Todd is tied for 38th and her 14 pars is tied for the sixth most in the field.

Maria José Marin is also tied for 38th after carding an even 72. She logged four birdies, including one on the last hole to finish at par or better for the 20th time this season, which is tied for the fifth most in an individual season in program history. Her birdie on 18 was also a great bounce back from three consecutive bogeys on holes 12-14. José Marin registered 10 pars and four bogeys on the day.

Kajal Mistry logged a 1-over 73 to sit in a tie for 58th after one round. The graduate student was 2-over par through 10 holes but kicked it into gear with birdies on the 11th, 14th and 15th holes. Although she double bogeyed the 16th hole, which was giving troubles to several golfers who braved through the windy conditions during the later tee times, she finished strong with two straight pars. Mistry finished with three birdies, 12 pars, two bogeys and one double bogey.

Reagan Zibilski finished with a 6-over 78 to sit in a tie for 132nd. She finished with two birdies and 11 pars and found trouble on the back nine alike most golfers with the afternoon tee times, finishing with four bogeys and two double bogeys.

Arkansas did well on par 4s today with the second-best par 4s average (3.98), as well as the eighth most birdies with 15.
