No. 18 Gomez Alonso Advances in Consolation Draw at ITA All-American Championships

CARY, N.C. – Carolina Gomez Alonso completed her second day of singles action in the consolation draw on Thursday at the ITA All-American Championships.

No. 18 Gomez Alonso began her run in the main draw on Wednesday, falling in three sets to No. 81 Aulia (Tennessee). In her opening match of the consolation draw, Gomez Alonso faced Kate Fakih (UCLA) for a spot in the Round of 32. Gomez Alonso secured the first set 6-4 as Fakih evened the match after a 6-2 victory in the second set. In the final set, Gomez Alonso grabbed an early 2-0 lead before Fakih claimed the next three games to take a 3-2 advantage. Gomez Alonso then responded by winning four of the next five games en route to a 6-4 victory in the decisive set.

With the win, Gomez Alonso moves on to face No. 53 Elizabeth Coleman (Duke) tomorrow in the consolation Round of 32. Time is TBD.
