No. 23 Arkansas Takes Down Oklahoma on the Road, Extends Unbeaten Streak to Seven
NORMAN, Okla. – No. 23 Arkansas women’s soccer (7-4-4, 5-1-3 SEC) continued its surge with a 3-1 win over Oklahoma (11-4-2, 5-4-0 SEC) on Friday night in Norman.
The win extended the Hogs’ SEC unbeaten streak to seven matches, the longest since Arkansas went unbeaten in nine straight SEC matches over the 2022 and 2023 seasons.
How it Happened
The Hogs struck first by way of a successful coach’s challenge of an uncalled foul after junior forward Kyndal Ewertz was taken down in the penalty box in the 15th minute. Fifth-year midfielder Zoe Susi converted from the spot for her second penalty of the season.
Oklahoma took control in the remaining 25 minutes of the half and forced Razorback goalkeeper Keegan Smith to make a pair of diving saves.
Arkansas applied pressure to start the second half with a shot and two corners in the opening minutes.
Ewertz again gave the Hogs a scoring opportunity, winning a corner in the 57th minute. Junior defender Madden McDonald took the kick and found the head of senior midfielder Cora Hair, whose header from outside the six-yard box linked with senior defender Bella Field inside the six. Field finished it off with a header for her fifth goal of the year.
The Razorbacks scored again just over two minutes later on another corner kick. This time, Ewertz cleaned up a couple of blocked shots with a redirection past OU goalkeeper Callie Sullivan for her fourth goal of the season.
Arkansas held one of the nation’s best offenses scoreless for the first 66 minutes, then the nation’s leading scorer, forward Kayla Keefer, scored Oklahoma’s only goal of the night.
The Razorbacks outshot the Sooners 14-13 and dominated the corner kick battle 14-2.
The Hogs inched closer to a first-round bye in the SEC Tournament and will need a win in the regular-season finale at Kentucky (Nov. 1) to lock up a top-four finish. Arkansas is currently fourth in the SEC standings by three points.
