No. 24 Arkansas to Face Memphis and Missouri

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team will have one home and one road match this weekend, set to host Memphis on Friday (Feb. 26) at 3 p.m. and then travel to Columbia to face Missouri at noon on Sunday (Feb. 28).

Arkansas looks ahead to Memphis and Missouri after working itself into the ITA rankings this week, coming in at No. 24. The Hogs improved to 7-0 after they finished last weekend 2-0, opening SEC play with a 4-3 win against Ole Miss on Saturday (Feb. 20) and a 4-0 sweep of No. 25 Mississippi State on Monday (Feb. 22).

Freshman Indianna Spink added to her already impressive rookie resume with her second SEC Freshman of the Week honor, announced by the league office on Wednesday. Spink went 1-1 this weekend in singles play and undefeated in doubles play, teaming up with freshman teammate Morgan Cross.

Spink helped Arkansas clinch its win against the ranked Bulldogs on Monday, winning her singles match against No. 69 Emma Antonaki 4-6, 6-1, 6-4, posting her second-ranked win as a freshman and first ranked win in a dual match.

Arkansas opened its 2020 home slate last season with a win over Memphis. After winning the doubles point, Jackie Carr, Lauren Alter, Kelly Keller and Laura Rijkers all posted wins against their Tiger counterparts to get the 5-2 victory. Arkansas is 17-2 all-time against Memphis.

Missouri was the last opponent Arkansas faced in 2020 before the season was shortened due to COVID. The Razorbacks beat Mizzou on the road last March, with the help of doubles duo Alter and Tatum Rice. Alter and Rice defeated Ellie Wright and Elys Ventura 6-2 to clinch the doubles point en route to the Hogs’ 4-1 win.

The Razorbacks will return to Fayetteville the following week with home matches against SEC foes, Vanderbilt on Friday (March 5) and Kentucky on Sunday (March 7).
