No. 30 Barun, Horwood Earn All-American Honors, Advance to NCAA Doubles Quarterfinals
STILLWATER, Okla. – No. 30 Božo Barun and Jared Horwood continued their run at the NCAA Doubles Championships with a 7-5, 6-3 victory over No. 12 Hunter Heck/Karlis Ozolins (Illinois) on Wednesday evening at Greenwood Tennis Center. With the win, the duo earned ITA Doubles All-American honors after advancing to the quarterfinals.
The tandem becomes the first Razorback team to earn All-American honors since Mike Redlicki and Jose Salazar in 2017 and are the first Arkansas duo to advance to the quarterfinals since 1994 (Marcus Hilpert/Euan McGinn). The Hogs have not had a doubles pair reach the semifinals since Peter Doohan and Pat Serret won the 1982 NCAA Doubles Championship.
After going down 3-5 in the first set, Barun/Horwood won four consecutive games and prevailed to take the opening set, 7-5. In the second set, the Razorback tandem jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead and closed out the match with a 6-3 victory to secure their sixth ranked win of the season.
Barun and Horwood will face No. 3 Robert Cash/JJ Tracy (Ohio State) tomorrow at 3 p.m. for a spot in the semifinals at the 2024 NCAA Doubles Championships.
