No. 46 Women's Tennis Defeats No. 38 Rebels in Regular Season Finale
OXFORD, Miss. – The No. 46 Arkansas women’s tennis team (12-11, 5-8) closed out the regular season with a 4-2 victory over the No. 38 Ole Miss Rebels (12-10, 5-8) on Sunday afternoon at Palmer Salloum Tennis Center. The Razorbacks won their final two matches to earn the No. 9 seed in the SEC Tournament, which runs from April 17-21 in Athens, Ga.
The Hogs brought home the doubles point with victories on courts two and three. Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell defeated Crowley/Devier 6-4 on court two, while Kelly Keller and Carolina Gomez Alonso clinched the point with a 7-5 win at the No. 3 position. The victory for Stara and O’Donnell marks their 35th doubles win together, placing them in a tie for fifth on the program’s all-time career doubles victories list.
In singles, Arkansas climbed out to a 2-0 lead after a win from Stara as she cruised to a straight-set victory over Leclercq on court three. Indianna Spink quickly followed with a 6-4, 6-2 win against Kette at the No. 4 position to extend the lead for the Razorbacks. Ole Miss picked up their first point of the match after Nova bested Kacie Harvey in straight sets on court six.
The Rebels claimed court two following a 7-5, 6-3 victory from Hrastar over Keller at the No. 2 position to bring Ole Miss within a point of tying the match. However, the Hogs clinched the match after a 7-6 (3), 6-3 win from No. 31 Gomez Alonso against Kareisova in the top spot. The victory for Arkansas marks its sixth-straight win over the Rebels.
The Razorbacks travel to Athens, Ga., for the SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament and will play No. 8 seed (No. 33 ITA) LSU on Thursday, April 18, at 2 p.m. CT.
