No. 47 Arkansas Rallies to Defeat SMU on the Road, 4-2
DALLAS – The No. 47 Arkansas men’s tennis team (11-3) improved to 6-1 on the road this season after a 4-2 win over SMU (8-6) on Wednesday afternoon at Styslinger/Altec Tennis Complex.
The Mustangs took the early advantage in doubles with a victory on court one, as No. 46 Huntley Allen/Adam Neff defeated No. 45 Jared Horwood/Melvin Manuel, 6-2. SMU claimed the doubles point after a win from Louis Cloud/Trevor Svajda over Jakob Mosvold/Jake Sweeney at the No. 2 position. Gerard Planelles Ripoll and Connor Smillie’s match went unfinished with the Razorback duo ahead 5-4.
The Razorbacks quickly responded in singles play, taking the first set on four courts and eventually securing the match with four straight-set victories. On court four, Stefanos Savva improved to 8-2 this spring after a commanding 6-2, 6-1 win over Maks Silagy to tie the match. The Mustangs regained the lead following a victory from Svajda over Planelles Ripoll in the top spot.
The Hogs evened the score yet again after a 6-4, 6-4 win from Karlo Kajin on court six, while Manuel followed with a 7-5, 6-4 victory at the No. 3 position to give Arkansas the lead. The Razorbacks clinched the match on court two as Božo Barun collected his first ranked win this year after taking down No. 97 Neff.
The Hogs continue their season with a doubleheader in Knoxville, Tenn., as they travel to face No. 5 Tennessee for their SEC opener and Tennessee Tech on Sunday, March 3.
