No. 51 Arkansas Takes Down No. 15 South Carolina, 4-1
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 51 Arkansas women’s tennis team (9-8, 2-5) upset the short-handed No. 15 South Carolina Gamecocks (12-5, 4-4), securing a 4-1 victory on Sunday afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center.
The Razorbacks grabbed the early advantage following a win by forfeit on court three and a victory on court two. South Carolina was limited to only four available players during the match due to illness and forfeited court three in doubles play, leaving the Razorbacks within one win of taking the doubles point. At the No. 2 position, Lenka Stara/Grace O’Donnell earned their fifth victory together this spring after a 6-3 win over Lancelot/Mills to claim the point for the Hogs.
The Gamecocks had to forfeit courts five and six in singles play because of their short-handed lineup, giving Arkansas a 3-0 lead. South Carolina collected its only point of the match at the No. 3 position as Lancelot bested No. 112 Indianna Spink in straight sets. The Razorbacks clinched the match after a dominant 7-5, 6-2 win from Morgan Cross against Kantor on court four.
The Hogs hit the road for a pair of SEC contests next week to face No. 29 Vanderbilt on Friday, March 29, before taking on No. 67 Kentucky on Sunday, March 31.
