No. 51 Razorbacks Fall to No. 12 Florida, 6-1
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 51 Arkansas women’s tennis team (8-8, 1-5) dropped its match to No. 12 Florida (9-7, 5-2), falling 6-1 on Friday at Billingsley Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Gators took the early advantage with a win on court two, as Briggs/Lopez defeated Lenka Stara/Grace O’Donnell, 6-1. Florida claimed the doubles point after another victory from Dudeney/Rowinska over No. 36 Morgan Cross/Anet Koskel in the top spot. Kelly Keller and Carolina Gomez Alonso’s match went unfinished with the Razorback duo narrowly ahead 5-3 in the tiebreak.
The Gators carried their momentum into singles play, winning the first set on four courts. On court six, Rowinska grabbed a straight-set victory over O’Donnell, while Cross fell to No. 84 Briggs at the No. 3 position. Florida clinched the match on court one as No. 15 Gailis bested No. 31 Gomez Alonso, 6-4, 6-1.
On court five, Kacie Harvey dropped her match after a close finish in the second set to No. 109 Lopez as the remaining courts were played out. Keller secured the only point of the match for the Hogs after a 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7) win over No. 52 Dahlstrom at the No. 2 position. With the victory, Keller collected her first ranked victory this spring and fourth singles win overall. Stara fell in a three-set battle to Dudeney to close out the match.
The Razorbacks will return to Billingsley Tennis Center on Sunday, March 24, at noon to host No. 15 South Carolina.
