No. 52 Arkansas Sweeps Midweek Doubleheader in Tulsa
TULSA, Okla. – The No. 52 Arkansas men’s tennis team (9-3) swept its doubleheader on Wednesday, defeating ORU (0-4) before rallying for a 4-1 victory over No. 56 Tulsa (3-5).
The Razorbacks took the early lead in the opening match versus Oral Roberts with a doubles sweep. Benedikt Emesz and Alan Sau Franco teamed up to earn a dominant 6-2 win on court three, while Melvin Manuel and Foster Rogers grabbed a 6-2 victory of their own to secure the doubles point for the Hogs.
Rogers cruised to his second singles win of the season, defeating Cayden Cheek in straight sets at the No. 4 position. Horwood followed with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on court five, while Jakob Mosvold clinched the match for Arkansas after a 6-1, 6-2 win on court six.
Karlo Kajin picked up another point for the Razorbacks after earning a 6-1, 6-2 victory in the top spot as the remaining courts were played out. Sau Franco posted a 6-2, 6-2 win at the No. 2 position and Connor Smillie completed the sweep with a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6) victory to claim the final point of the match for the Hogs.
No. 56 Tulsa grabbed the early advantage in the second match after wins on courts one and three to obtain the doubles point. No. 55 Pierce Rollins/Timothy Seger defeated No. 45 Horwood/Manuel while the Golden Hurricane closed it out on court three as Smillie/Sweeney dropped their first match of the spring together to Alex Okonkwo/Victor Tosetto.
Arkansas quickly responded in singles play, taking the first set on four courts and eventually securing the match with four consecutive singles victories. On court three, Manuel secured a commanding 6-0, 6-3 victory over Callum Gale, while Božo Barun picked up his fifth win of the season after beating Okonkwo in straight sets at the No. 2 position. On court six, Sweeney battled back after being down 3-5 in the first set to win the next 10 games of the match en route to a 7-5, 6-0 victory. The Razorbacks claimed the final point of the match on court four as Stefanos Savva bested Seger, 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The Hogs will return to Billingsley Tennis Center this Saturday to host Lamar at 4 p.m.
