
No. 62 Razorbacks Drop SEC Opener to No. 12 Oklahoma
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 62 Arkansas women’s tennis team (3-4) dropped its SEC opener to No. 12 Oklahoma (8-1), falling 4-3 on Saturday evening at Billingsley Tennis Center.
The Razorbacks took the early lead after grabbing the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The Sooners struck first as Ava Catanzarite/Julia Garcia Ruiz claimed a 6-2 victory over Jimena Gomez/Katarina Pavlechova. The Hogs responded with No. 78 Anet Koskel/Grace O’Donnell earning a 6-2 ranked win over No. 53 Gloriana Nahum/Salakthip Ounmuang. The victory for Koskel/O’Donnell marks their second ranked win together this season and third victory overall. The doubles point came down to court one as Arkansas’ Olga Bienzobas/Carolina Gomez clinched the point with a narrow 7-5 win.
Oklahoma took momentum at the start of singles play, winning on courts four and two to take the lead. No. 92 C. Gomez tied the match for the Hogs after a 6-1, 6-3 victory over No. 12 Garcia Ruiz in the top spot. With the win, C. Gomez collected her second ranked victory of the season.
The Sooners retook the lead with a win on court six, clinching the match soon after with a victory on court three. Pavlechova’s match was played out as she secured a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Catanzarite.
The Razorbacks will travel to Tulsa, Okla. on Monday, February 24 to take on the Golden Hurricane at 2 p.m.
