No. 63 Arkansas Takes Down No. 46 Kansas, 4-1

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 63 Arkansas women’s tennis team (6-3) secured a win in its opening match of the weekend after defeating No. 46 Kansas (2-5) on Friday afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center.

The Razorbacks grabbed the early advantage after wins on courts one and three to obtain the doubles point. The Jayhawks struck first on court two as Jocelyn Massey/Heike Janse Van Vuuren bested Lenka Stara/Grace O’Donnell, 7-5. The Hogs responded with Kelly Keller/Carolina Gomez Alonso earning a 6-3 victory over Jasmine Adams/Silvia Maria Costache. The doubles point came down to court one as Arkansas’ Morgan Cross/Anet Koskel clinched the point with a narrow 6-4 win.

Kansas claimed its only point of the match on court three as Kyoka Kubo defeated Stara in straight sets. Koskel started out strong again in singles play, cruising to a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the No. 6 position, while Kacie Harvey followed with a 6-3, 7-5 win on court five. The Razorbacks clinched the match after a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory from No. 88 Gomez Alonso at the No. 1 position.

The Hogs will return to Billingsley Tennis Center on Sunday, February 25 at 12 p.m. to host No. 48 Northwestern.
