
No. 70 Hogs Come Up Just Short Against No. 68 Kentucky, 4-3
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 70 Arkansas women’s tennis team (4-10, 1-6) came up short in search of its second SEC win, falling 4-3 to No. 68 Kentucky (7-8, 1-6) on Sunday afternoon at Billingsley Tennis Center.
In doubles play, The Razorbacks took the early advantage after a victory at the No. 1 position, as Olga Bienzobas and Carolina Gomez defeated No. 87 Ellie Eades and Elizabeth Stevens, 6-1. The win marks the second ranked victory of the season for the duo. No. 82 Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell finished off the doubles point with a 6-4 win over Asuncion Jadue and Julia Zhu.
The Wildcats struck first in singles play with Jadue defeating O’Donnell, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 5 position. Arkansas answered with a victory on court four, as Koskel took down Tess Bucher, 6-4, 6-4. Kentucky regained the lead following a three-set win from Stevens over Katarina Pavlechova at the No. 3 position, 6-2, 0-6, 6-1.
The Razorbacks evened the score again after a victory on court two, as Bienzobas bested No. 66 Zhu, 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. The win for Bienzobas is her first ranked victory of the season. The match came down to court six, where Jimena Gomez faced Ellie Myers. J. Gomez took the first set 6-3 while Myers fought back to win the second set 6-3, forcing a winner-take-all third set in the final set, Myers pulled away late en route to a 6-4 victory, securing the match for Kentucky.
The Hogs are back in action on Friday, March 21 at 3 p.m. to face No. 1 Georgia on the road at Dan Magill Tennis Complex.
