
No. 70 Razorbacks Fall to No. 8 Vols, 6-1
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 70 Arkansas women’s tennis team (4-9, 1-5) dropped its match to No. 8 Tennessee (10-3, 4-2), falling 6-1 on Friday at Billingsley Tennis Center.
In doubles play, the Vols took the early advantage with a win on court two, as No. 52 Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez Risso defeated No. 82 Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell, 6-2. The Razorbacks battled back with a victory on court one, where Olga Bienzobas and Carolina Gomez bested Maeve Thornton and Elza Tomase, 6-3. Tennessee claimed the doubles point after another win from Conley Raidt and Saray Yli-Piipari over Jimena Gomez and Katarina Pavlechova on court three.
The Vols carried their momentum into singles play, winning the first set on five courts. On Court two, No. 36 Aulia grabbed a straight-set victory over Bienzobas, while Koskel fell to Francesca Mattioli at the No. 4 position. The Hogs got a point back on court five, with O’Donnell collecting a 7-6 (3), 7-5 win.
Tennessee clinched the match on court six as Yli-Piipari beat J. Gomez, 6-3, 7-6 (1). The remaining two courts were played out, as both No. 55 C. Gomez and Pavlechova lost in the third sets of their matches.
The Razorbacks will be back at Billinsgley Tennis Center on Sunday, March 16 at 12 p.m. to host No. 68 Kentucky.
