No. 71 Bienzobas, Gomez Alonso Earn Top-50 Win at ITA All-American Championships

CARY, N.C. – Four members of the Arkansas women’s tennis team finished qualifying draw action on Tuesday at the ITA All-American Championships with two doubles tandems competing in the consolation draw.

After dropping their Round of 32 match in the qualifying doubles draw yesterday, No. 71 Olga Bienzobas/Carolina Gomez Alonso responded with a top-50 win over No. 48 Arai/Gonzalez (Miami). The victory for the duo marks their first ranked win together in their final match at the ITA All-American Championships, finishing with a 2-2 record at the tournament.

No. 51 Anet Koskel/Grace O’Donnell also faced a top-50 opponent in No. 49 Dorner/Uchijima (Penn State) with the Razorbacks falling in straight sets to end their run in Cary.

Gomez Alonso will make her singles debut at the event tomorrow in the main draw. Gomez Alonso is ranked No. 18 in the preseason ITA singles rankings and is the No. 15 seed in the draw. Gomez Alonso’s opponent and match time are TBD.
