Olesen Selected for 2024 Arnold Palmer Cup

NORMAN, Okla. – For the fourth consecutive year — and ninth time overall — a member of the Razorback men’s golf program will compete at the Arnold Palmer Cup as Jacob Skov Olesen was selected to participate, the Golf Coaches Association of America announced Monday on GOLF Channel.

Olesen will represent his native Denmark on Team International. The 28th annual event is set to be played July 5-7 at the famed Lahinch Golf Club (Lahinch, Ireland), which was originally scheduled to host the 2020 event but canceled due to COVID. The Ryder Cup-style competition features the top men’s and women’s collegiate golfers from the United States versus their International counterparts. USA leads the all-time series 14-12-1.

Olesen, a graduate senior, is #12 on NCAA/Clippd rankings. He is on pace to shatter Arkansas’ season scoring average at 69.92. (Julian Perico currently has the record at 70.38 during the 2019-20 season.) After a T24 finish in his season opener (due to an unlucky break on his 54th hole), Olesen has posted eight consecutive top-15 finishes and finished events under par in seven of those eight – finishing at even par in the other. Olesen leads the team in scoring average (69.92), top 20 finishes (8), rounds in the 60’s (12) and rounds at par or better (19). He is tied for the team lead with five top 10’s (four in the spring).

Olesen is #111 in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR). However, he was #336 on Aug. 23, 2023 and improved 225 spots since then. Specifically, he was #212 on Feb. 21, 2024 and has improved 101 spots in the last eight weeks.

Olesen joins Razorback All-American and #ProHog Sebastian Cappelen as natives of Denmark to play in the Arnold Palmer Cup. Cappelen was a three-time selection and posted a 7-5-0 record. Olesen is the fifth male from Denmark to make the team with Cappelen (2011, ’12 and ’13), Frederik Kjettrup (2022 and ’23), Mark Haastrup (2006 and ’07) and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen (2022).

Also selected to play in the 2024 Palmer Cup for Team International is Razorback freshman Maria Jose Marin (Colombia). This is the second time a Razorback male and female will be playing in the same Palmer Cup. In 2018. Alvaro Ortiz (Mexico) and Maria Fassi (Mexico) played for Team International while Alana Uriell and Dylan Kim represented Team USA.
