Preseason poll predicts SEC title for Razorbacks

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Arkansas women are predicted to claim a ninth consecutive SEC cross country title based on voting by league head coaches for the conference preseason poll. The Razorbacks earned 10 of 14 first place votes, as announced by the SEC office on Thursday.

After claiming an eighth consecutive championship, and 21st overall in SEC cross country, the Razorbacks went on to achieve a sweep of all three conference titles in 2020-21, completing its seventh SEC triple crown.

Arkansas totaled 10 points in the poll. Alabama claimed four first-place votes and rank second with 22 points. Rounding out the top seven teams are Ole Miss (39), Kentucky (48), Tennessee (72), LSU (85), and Missouri (91). The next seven schools include Florida (92), Vanderbilt (97), Georgia (121), Mississippi State (142), Auburn (144), Texas A&M (146), and South Carolina (159).

Points for the women’s poll were awarded on a 1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9-10-11-12-13 basis. Coaches were not permitted to vote for their own teams.

Missouri serves as host of the SEC Championships on October 29. Arkansas opens the season in Columbia, Missouri, on Friday, September 3, to race on the Gans Creek course in the Missouri Opener.
