Razorback MGolf 6th After Rd1 at Folds of Honor
GRAND HAVEN, Mich. – Arkansas made a late charge on the back nine to climb from 12th to sixth with a 5-over-par score of 289 after the opening 18 holes of the 2023-24 season at the Folds of Honor Collegiate, played at the American Dunes Golf Club (par 71, 7,086 yards).
John Driscoll III, Mateo Pulcini and John Daly II each birdied the 18th hole to see Arkansas jump four teams on the final hole alone. Also, Driscoll and Jacob Skov Olesen each played the inward nine at 2-under-par while Daly was even par over his last nine holes.
South Carolina leads the 18-team field after a 2-under score of 282. Arizona is one stroke back at 283 (-1) while Indiana is two shots in arrears at 283 (E). Memphis stands in fourth (286) and Notre Dame is fifth (287). Trailing Arkansas is a trio of schools – Kentucky, Oregon State and NC State – at 290 (+6).
Driscoll is T-15 after his even-par round of 71. The graduate senior started slowly with bogeys on holes 2, 3, and 4. He bounced back with a birdie on the par-5, 6th hole. After a bogey on 10, he posted birdies on holes 12, 15 and 18 to lead the Razorbacks through 18 holes.
Olesen, who is T20 at +1, also got off to a slow start with a double bogey on hole 1 and a bogey on hole 3. Like Driscoll, Olesen had a birdie on hole 6 but dropped a shot on hole 8. He opened his inward nine with birdies on holes 10 and 12 before reeling off six pars to close his round with a 72.
Pulcini and Daly are tied for 32nd, each posting a 2-over-par 74. Both got to their scores in different ways but finished the same, with a birdie on 18. Pulcini was 2-under through five holes and Daly was 2-over. Pulcini fell to 2-over after going bogey, bogey, double on holes 9-11. His up-and-down round continued with a birdie on 13 followed by a double and bogey. The graduate senior righted the ship with birdies on holes 16 and 18. Daly birdied hole 6 but fell back to 2-over with a bogey on hole 8. The redshirt sophomore had seven straight pars before falling to 3-over with a bogey on 17. Daly had a short chip for his third shot on 18 and drained his 3-foot putt to close with a birdie.
Manual Lozada is T63 (75 / +5) but led the team with 14 pars.
