Razorback Women’s Tennis set to open 2020 season

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team sets its sights on Memphis for their 2020 season opener on Saturday morning at the Billingsley Tennis Center. Saturday’s meet is slated to begin at 11 a.m.

The two teams will be clashing for the first time since the 2014-2015 season, the Razorbacks head into the match with a 16-2 series advantage over the Tigers.

Arkansas enters the season with a pair of returning student-athletes that finished last season with top-100 rankings in Martina Zerulo (87) and Tatum Rice (89). Zerulo landed at 121 in the final rankings of the fall season. Lauren Alter and Rice enter the spring ranked 34th in doubles play.

Alter and Rice wrapped up their fall season competing in the Oracle ITA Fall National Championships, advancing to the Elite Eight after defeating Vanderbilt’s Georgia Drummy and Christina Rosca in the Round of 16 (6-2, 4-6, 11-9).

Freshman Kelly Keller also saw some quality action on the court this fall, finishing second in her flight at the 2019 Seminole All-Conference Showdown. Keller defeated Central Florida’s Domenika Turkovic (6-3, 7-6 (5)) and Andrea Pascual-Larrinaga of East Tennessee State (6-3, 7-5) en route to her second-place finish.

Memphis brings back a wealth of experience from its 2019 squad, including all-conference player Laura Bente, who enters the season after going 13-2 at the two-spot last year.
