Razorbacks announce 2024 cross country schedule

FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas cross country begins its season at the end of August with the men racing at the Cowboy Preview at Oklahoma State on Friday, August 30, and the women competing at the Mizzou Opener in Columbia on the same day.

Following the opening weekend at separate locations, the Razorback men and women race in the Chile Pepper Festival held at Agri Park on Saturday, September 28. After having split race days in recent years, the college meet will be held on the same day as the high school events this fall.

With the University of Wisconsin hosting the NCAA Championships in November, Arkansas will travel to the Thomas Zimmer Championship course on Saturday, October 19, for the Pre-National Invitational.

This season the Pre-National Invitational will include three races per gender, with teams limited to eight runners in either the A or B races. Field sizes through the end of July have 84 women’s teams and 74 men’s teams entered.

In November, the Razorbacks will visit College Station, Texas, twice for the SEC Championships on Friday, November 1, and again on Friday, November 15, for the NCAA South Central Region meet.

Arkansas men claimed its 28th SEC Cross Country Championship last fall while the women finished runner-up to Florida by 10 points.

In the 2023 NCAA South Central meet, the Razorback women captured a 12th consecutive team title, and 27th overall, while the men were runner-up to Texas as they secured advancement to the NCAA Championships for a 12th consecutive season.

Arkansas hosted the South Central Region last season and had a pair of individual winners in Patrick Kiprop and Sydney Thorvaldson. Both went on to earn All-America honors in the national championship meet along with Kirami Yego.

The NCAA Championships in Madison will be held on Saturday, November 23. Last season the men finished fourth in the national meet and the women were ninth. It marked the third podium for the Arkansas men in the past four meets.
