Razorbacks announce a pair of additions to 2022 signing class

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Arkansas men’s track and field announced two additions to its 2022 recruiting class with Jaxon Bair and Isaiah Sategna recently signing a national letter of intent to join the Razorbacks.

Bair, from Kimberly HS in Kimberly, Idaho, is the 2021 U.S. high school leader with a decathlon score of 7,496 points, which ranks No. 8 all-time among preps. Bair produced the score in winning the 17-18 division of the 2021 USATF National Junior Olympics, bettering the meet record of 7,405 points set in 2001 by Donovan Kilmartin.

Bair is one of four future Razorbacks among the high school all-time top 10 in the decathlon. The list includes 1. Gunnar Nixon (8,035); 4. Gabe Moore (7,819); 6. Kevin Lazas (7,510); and 8. Bair (7,496). Bair and Kilmartin (No. 9 with 7,486), who is from Eagle, Idaho, are the only two who have a mark from their junior season among the all-time top 10.

Sategna, from Fayetteville HS in Fayetteville, Arkansas, signed with the Razorback football program on Wednesday. A 5-11 wide receiver in football, Sategna is the top-rated prospect in the State of Arkansas. His career totals include 172 receptions for 3,261 yards with 25 touchdowns. During his recent senior season, which included playing in the State Championship game, Sategna had 100 receptions for a nation-leading 1,908 yards and 17 touchdowns.

In track and field, Sategna has collected a total of 10 Arkansas 6A State titles from seven events covering sprints, hurdles, and jumps. In addition, he has four State silver medals as well as a pair of State bronze relay medals from the 4×200 in 2021 and 4×400 indoors in 2019.

Sategna won five events during the 2020 Arkansas Indoor State meet (60m, 200m, 400m, 60m hurdles, long jump). In 2019, he won the 60m hurdles and long jump while placing second in the 200m during the Indoor State meet and added three more titles outdoors in the Arkansas 6A State Championships (110H, 300H, long jump) while placing second in three additional events (100m, 200m, high jump).

Competing at the 2021 Idaho 3A State Championships, Bair claimed four individual titles in the 110m hurdles, high jump, pole vault and shot put. In 2019 he was the 3A State champion in the pole vault. High school best marks for Bair currently include 10.78 (100), 14.40 (110H), 50.56 (400), 6-4 (HJ), 15-6 (PV), 22-3 3/4 (LJ), 53-6 (SP).

Current high school best marks for Sategna include 7.88 (60H), 14.61 (110H), 37.67 (300H), 6-6 (high jump), and 24-1 1/2 (long jump). In 2019, Sategna had the top long jump by a freshman with a mark of 24-1 1/2, which ranked seventh best overall among preps that indoor season. In 2020, his 60m hurdle time of 7.88 ranked second among sophomores and fifth overall in the nation.
