Razorbacks Blank Redbirds, 7-0

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team (2-0) continued its hot start to the season with a 7-0 win over Illinois State (0-1) on Friday at Billingsley Tennis Center.

The Hogs grabbed an early lead with a doubles sweep to take the 1-0 advantage. Senior Jakob Mosvold and junior Jake Sweeney teamed up for the first time this spring to earn a dominant 6-0 win on court two, while seniors Karlo Kajin and Alan Sau Franco claimed a 6-2 victory to secure the doubles point for the Razorbacks. Senior Stefanos Savva and freshman Connor Smillie’s match went unfinished with the Arkansas duo ahead 5-4.

Savva started out strong again in singles play, cruising to a 6-3, 6-2 victory at the No. 2 position to obtain the first singles win. Smillie quickly followed with a 6-4, 6-1 victory on court five, while sophomore Benedikt Emesz clinched the match for the Hogs after a 6-4, 6-2 win on court three.

Sophomore Božo Barun picked up another point for Arkansas, earning a 6-4, 6-3 victory in the top spot as the remaining courts were played out. Senior Foster Rogers posted a 6-3, 4-6, 1-0 (10-4) win on court six and Kajin completed the sweep with a comeback victory after dropping the first set to claim the final point of the match for the Hogs.

The Razorbacks will return to Billingsley Tennis Center on Sunday, January 21 at 12 p.m. to host MTSU.
