Jackson Scores 34; Arkansas 101 In Win

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Jessica Jackson scored a career-high 34 points and the University of Arkansas women’s basketball team topped the century mark for the first time since the 2013-14 season, closing out nonconference play with a 101-40 win over Houston Baptist on Wednesday night in Bud Walton Arena.

Jackson also grabbed a season-high 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the year and the 14th of her career. She was 12-of-16 from the floor, including 3-of-6 from 3-point range, and 7-of-8 from the free-throw line. She led four scorers in double figures for the Razorbacks (11-2).

Keiryn Swenson added a career-high 23 points on a near-perfect shooting night, going 6-of-8 from the floor, 3-of-3 from 3-point range and 8-of-9 from the free-throw line. Jailyn Mason recorded her first career double-double with 10 points and a career-high 11 assists. Alecia Cooley added 10 points, while Sydney Stout set a career high with eight points.

Arkansas never trailed, shooting 52 percent (38-of-73) from the field and 43 percent (10-of-23) from 3-point range, setting season highs with 27 assists and 10 3-pointers in a game. Arkansas also set a school record for points in the second quarter and tied a school record for points in the third quarter, outscoring Houston Baptist 31-11 and 34-7, respectively. The third-quarter advantage included an 18-0 run.

Arkansas finishes nonconference regular-season play with an 11-2 record, the best under head coach Jimmy Dykes and the best since the 2013-14 season. The Razorbacks open Southeastern Conference play at Ole Miss on New Year’s Day with a tip-off set for 4 p.m. on SEC Network.

Leading 23-13, Arkansas opened the second quarter on a 16-4 run to push its lead to 39-17 with 5:29 left in the first half. The run included eight unanswered points at the end of the run, capped by a steal by Jailyn Mason and a transition lay-up by Keiryn Swenson.

After taking its largest lead of the season into halftime, Arkansas outscored Houston Baptist 34-7 in the third quarter, including an 18-0 run midway through the period. Arkansas held Houston Baptist without a point for a 6:01 stretch during the period. Jessica Jackson began the 18-0 run with eight straight points, including back-to-back 3-pointers.
