Razorbacks Close Out Weekend with 6-1 win over Jaguars

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team (4-1) earned its second win of the weekend after defeating South Alabama (2-2) on Sunday at Billingsley Tennis Center.

The Hogs took the early 1-0 advantage with another doubles sweep. Junior Jake Sweeney and freshman Connor Smillie teamed up to earn a dominant 6-1 win on court three, while graduate Jared Horwood and senior Melvin Manuel claimed a 6-3 victory to secure the doubles point for the Razorbacks. Senior Alan Sau Franco and sophomore Gerard Planelles Ripoll’s match went unfinished with the Arkansas duo ahead 5-3.

Sophomore Božo Barun started out strong again in singles play, cruising to a 6-3, 6-0 victory at the No. 2 position to obtain the first singles win. Sophomore Benedikt Emesz quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-2 victory on court five, while senior Karlo Kajin clinched the match for the Hogs after a 6-3, 6-3 win on court six.

Manuel picked up another point for Arkansas, earning a 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory at the No. 3 position as the remaining courts were played out. South Alabama claimed their only point of the match on court four as Accossatto defeated Sau Franco in straight sets. No. 117 Planelles Ripoll closed out the match with a comeback victory in three sets to secure the final point of the match for the Hogs.

The Razorbacks will return to Billingsley Tennis Center next week to host No. 22 Memphis on Sunday, Feb. 4.
