Razorbacks Complete Day One Of Fall Competition
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va./LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Arkansas women’s tennis opened up fall competition at the Uva Invite and Little Rock Classic Friday.
In Charlottesville, inclement weather forced matches to move indoors. Arkansas began the day with doubles action. The dynamic duo of Yuliya Lysa and Shannon Hudson paired up to take down Miami’s (Ohio) Andreea Badileanu and Nelli Ponomareva 8-6.
In singles action, Lysa, Hudson and Oparenovic all turned in impressive performances, combining for five wins through the first two rounds.
Meanwhile in Little Rock, Nicole Breaux turned in a 7-5, 6-2 win over Ole Miss’ Brooke Stevens. In doubles play, Oleksandra Shkorupeieva and Makenzie Craft defeated Kansas’ Maria Jose Cardona and Summer Collins 6-4.
“We definitely had some encouraging performances across the board today,” head coach Michael Hegarty said. “On day two, we expect to take solid steps forward on every court. These early season matches help us so much in charting our progress.”
The Razorbacks return to action in Charlottesville and Little Rock Saturday, Sept. 26.
