Razorbacks Conclude Opening Weekend at The Duel In The Desert
INDIAN WELLS, Calif. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team completed its first competition of the season at the Duel in the Desert in Indian Wells, Calif., where the Hogs faced off against Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State. The Razorbacks won seven matches – five singles and two doubles – over the three-day event.
The Razorbacks were able to string together a few successful singles performances on Thursday, claiming two victories against Kansas. Junior Anet Koskel came back to defeat Van Vuuren 3-6, 6-0, 7-6 (4). Freshman Katarina Pavlechova added another win for Arkansas, defeating Maria Titova 6-2, 1-6, 6-4.
The Hogs continued play on Friday against Kansas State, winning two singles matches. Koskel retained momentum from Thursday, sweeping Sana Garakani 6-2, 6-4. Pavlechova also earned a sweep, beating Zali Morris 6-2, 6-3.
Friday brought Arkansas its first doubles win of the event. Katie Ferguson and Jimena Gomez Alonso defeated Morris and Polakova 6-4.
The Razorbacks won one of their three doubles matches on Saturday, with No. 67 Koskel/Grace O’Donnell defeating Camblor/Ramos Sierra 6-3.
J. Gomez Alonso earned her first win of the duel on Saturday, besting Suzanie Pretorius 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.
The Hogs will be back in action next Saturday against SMU for ITA Kickoff Weekend in Stillwater, Okla.
