Razorbacks Fall to Cowgirls in ITA Kickoff Weekend Championship

STILLWATER, Okla. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (1-1) concluded ITA Kickoff Weekend with its first loss of the season, falling 4-1 to No. 4 Oklahoma State (5-0) on Sunday afternoon at Greenwood Tennis Center.

Oklahoma State took the early lead after grabbing the doubles point with wins on courts one and three. The Cowgirls struck first as Komar/Nijkamp claimed a 6-1 victory over No. 67 Anet Koskel/Grace O’Donnell. The Razorbacks responded with a win on court two, with Olga Bienzobas/Carolina Gomez Alonso picking up a victory over Collins/Epps, 6-3. The win for Bienzobas/C. Gomez Alonso was their first of the season. The doubles point came down to court three as Oklahoma State’s Lopez/Zack clinched the point with a 6-2 victory.

The Cowgirls carried their momentum into singles play, earning their first two points on courts three and four. On court one, No. 72 C. Gomez Alonso picked up her first ranked win of the season, beating No. 48 Komar 6-4, 6-4. Oklahoma State secured the final point of the match on court six as Zack defeated J. Gomez Alonso 6-3, 6-4.

Up Next: The Hogs will play their first home matches of the season, hosting Drake for a doubleheader on Saturday, February 1 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.
