Razorbacks Fall to Grand Canyon On the Road

PHOENIX – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (3-2) suffered a 4-0 loss to Grand Canyon (5-1) on the road Friday afternoon at GCU Tennis Facility. The match was pushed back a day due to inclement weather in the area.

Grand Canyon took the early lead after grabbing the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. The Lopes struck first as Del Marco/Krokhotina claimed a 6-2 victory over Lenka Stara/Grace O’Donnell. The Razorbacks responded with Morgan Cross/Anet Koskel earning a 6-3 win at the No. 1 position. The doubles point came down to court three as Grand Canyon’s Sepa/Morozova clinched the point with a narrow 7-5 victory.

The Lopes carried their momentum into singles play, taking the first set on four courts. On court six, Morozova defeated O’Donnell 6-3, 6-3, while Strombacha took down Kelly Keller, 6-3, 6-2. Grand Canyon secured the final point of the match on court one as Puehse bested No. 79 Carolina Gomez Alonso, 6-3, 6-3.

The Hogs are back in action tomorrow morning at 11 a.m. CT to face No. 24 Arizona State at Whiteman Tennis Center in Tempe, Ariz.
