Razorbacks Fall to No. 35 Crimson Tide, 5-2

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark.  – The Arkansas women’s tennis team (4-17, 1-13) dropped its home match to No. 35 Alabama (13-12, 4-10), falling 5-2 Friday night at Billingsley Tennis Center.

The Razorbacks took the early advantage with a victory on court three as Jimena Gomez and Katarina Pavlechova defeated No. 73 Maria Andrienko and Maria Martinez-Vaque, 6-4, to earn their first ranked win of the season. The Hogs claimed the doubles point after a narrow 7-6 (6) victory from No. 56 Olga Bienzobas and Carolina Gomez over Margaux Maquet and Petra Sedlackova at the top spot. Anet Koskel and Grace O’Donnell’s match went unfinished on court two tied 6-6.

The Crimson Tide seized momentum to start singles, taking the first set on five courts. At the No. 4 position, Martinez-Vaque secured a straight-set win against Pavlechova, while Klara Milicevic bested O’Donnell, 7-6 (4), 6-2 to put Alabama in front. Koskel fell 2-6, 6-2, 6-0 in her match against Sarah Nayar on court four as the Crimson Tide further extended their lead. The match was clinched by the Crimson Tide as No. 73 C. Gomez fell in three sets to No. 53 Sedlackova at the top spot.

On court two, Bienzobas fought back to force a third set versus Andrienko, but ended up falling 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. J. Gomez collected the second point of the match for the Razorbacks after a 2-6, 6-4, 6-4 comeback victory over Maquet at the No. 6 position.

The Hogs will play their final match of the regular season on Sunday, April 13 against Mississippi State at 12 p.m. where they will also be celebrating Senior Day as they honor Olga Bienzobas and Grace O’Donnell prior to the match.
