Razorbacks Fall to Ranked Gators in Gainesville
GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The University of Arkansas volleyball team‘s solid effort was not enough overcome No. 8 Florida in a 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-18) loss.
The Razorbacks had their best set over the course of the two-game series in the second set. Arkansas recorded 15 kills to Florida’s 14 and registered a .220 hitting percentage. The Razorbacks trailed 12-7 early in the second set but rallied to take a 19-17 lead with crucial kills from seniors Devyn Wheeler and Liz Pamphile over the stretch. The Gators responded with a rally of their own to take the second set, 25-21.
The Hogs continued to battle in the final frame and despite scoring four of the final six points, fell to Florida 25-18 in the third.
Arkansas was led by freshman Taylor Head and sophomore Jillian Gillen who each posted eight kills in the loss. Junior setter Gracie Ryan recorded 24 assists and led the team with nine digs.
The Hogs improved their blocking and serve game from night one. Arkansas added an additional team block to the stat sheet with the help of Wheeler and Gillen, who both had multiple block assists. The Razorbacks also recorded three service aces, two from Gillen, the Southeastern Conference’s leader in service aces.
