Razorbacks Fall to UCLA in NCAA First-Round

STILLWATER, Okla. – The No. 31 University of Arkansas women’s tennis dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 20 UCLA on Saturday in the NCAA Round of 64 at the Stillwater Regional. The Razorbacks fall to 16-10 overall this season with the loss.

The Razorbacks took an early lead, claiming the doubles point with wins on courts one and two. The No. 53 duo of Tatum Rice and Morgan Cross got the first doubles win with a 6-2 defeat of UCLA’s No. 29 Elysia Bolton and Elise Wagle on court one. The pair earns their third win over a nationally ranked opponent and moves to 13-6 overall. On court two, Lenka Stara and freshman Grace O’Donnell teamed up for the first time, clinching the doubles point with a 6-2 win over Bruins No. 86 Abbey Forbes and Ava Catanzarite.

The Hogs put up a fight in singles play, forcing tiebreakers in three first sets. The Bruins got their first points on the board with wins on courts one and four in straight-sets. Graduate student Tatum Rice fell 0-6, 4-6 to No. 25 Abbey Forbes and UCLA’s No. 122 Kimmi Hance defeated Lenka Stara 6-4, 6-2.

UCLA took the lead 2-0 and claimed the first sets on courts two, three, five and six all in tiebreakers. On court five, Elise Wagle struck next defeating Morgan Cross 6-4, 6-1 to put UCLA within one. The Bruins clinched the match with a 7-5, 6-2 win on court six.
